Overcoming Food Temptation

Let's start off by being realistic. How often do you talk yourself into eating that food, that you know you probably shouldn't eat? I know for myself, it can be often depending on my mindset.
Next time you are reaching for an unhealthy treat, pay attention to how you are feeling.

Did you get good, restful sleep last night?

Are you hungry now, wanting a bigger meal instead of just candy or junk?

Are you cranky or not in a great mood?

Is it just a habit to reach for something like this?

Are you bored?

All these can affect why you want something not so great.

Here's an example. At work, we have a freezer and a drawer full of candies, and chocolates. I get bored, or hungry and of course, I go right towards the drawer. If I see someone else eat a piece, I get the desire to have one too! Why not??
At what point, do you say "no"?
Think about that 1 piece of chocolate or a donut or a bag of chips or a soda or anything.
Will it make you feel full/satisfied?

Will it make you feel better?

Will it help your diet?

The answer is probably "no" to all those questions. It may fill a momentary void and overall, is it what you need? Nope. Is it just what you want in that moment. Yup.
So next time, you reach for the bag of chips, the soda, the donut, the cookie, the whatever, think about what you want. What are your goals?
Every day, we should want to get better. We should be reaching to be 1% better today than we were yesterday. If you say "no" to that 1 donut, 1 bag of chips, 1 soda, 1 whatever, you are being 1% more disciplined than you were yesterday. You are already 1% better than you were yesterday.
