Going on vacation is hard with eating healthy and exercising. So how do you stay on track?
First, look realistically at how long you will be on vacation. Is it only a few days or is it a month? If it’s only a few days, a couple bad meals and missing out on exercise isn’t the end of the world. Being on vacation for a month, eating bad, not working out, and all around making bad health decisions probably isn’t the way to go.
So what to do?
Well once you’ve determined your length of time, make a plan of action. Plan out meals ahead of time. Even if you’re going to restaurants, try to look at the menus online before you are at the restaurant to make your decision easier and healthier. This can lead to healthier food choices.
Also plan out trips. Plan out places to walk to or things to do to get some exercise in. Take hikes, walk to places instead of buses or shuttles, visit hotel gyms for workouts, or get up earlier to make time for workouts. There are so many different options to staying healthy.
Okay, so I’m on vacation and I really want dessert every night. What do I do? Well, limit yourself. Pick one thing. Do you want the wine or the cake? Do you want the chocolate or the chips? It’s okay to indulge every now and again, just not ALL THE TIME.
On Instagram, Sarah Bowmar, an entrepreneur and fitness expert, quoted in reference to her being on vacation: “It’s highly unlikely you would eat in THAT much of a surplus to gain anything more than 1-2 pounds over a weeks time.”
Sounds good to me, right?
Eat your vegetables and your protein still. Get in your steps. Drink/eat your protein. Go for walks. Go for runs or hikes. Kayak, play sports, whatever it is you like to do...DO IT!
Stay on track but have fun too!!
